How to Choose the Right Power Supply
Step 1: Match the Voltage
Match the power supply voltage to your LED modules. 12V modules require 12V supplies. 24V modules require 24V supplies. Do not mix voltages.
Step 2: Total the Wattage
Multiply module count by wattage per module. Use the official per-model load limit from the TMT datasheet to determine how many modules fit per 60W supply.
Step 3: Account for the Jobsite
Consider wire run length (voltage drop), wet/damp/dry location rating, and local electrical code requirements. Use the Buyers Guide for detailed planning guidance.
Use the LED ROI Calculator for automated power supply count estimates using official TMT load limits.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Class 2 for LED power supplies?
Class 2 is a UL safety classification limiting each low-voltage output circuit to a maximum of 100 VA (60W at 12V via the 5A limit). Larger TMT supplies provide multiple independent Class 2 circuits. The 240W model provides four independent 5A Class 2 circuits. This simplifies code compliance for LED sign lighting installations.
What is Active Power Factor Correction (PFC)?
Active PFC improves the efficiency of the power supply by correcting the phase relationship between voltage and current. TMT PFC models achieve 88-93% efficiency. Non-PFC models are less efficient. PFC models also reduce harmonic distortion on the electrical system.
Can I use a 12V power supply with 24V LED modules?
No. Always match the power supply voltage to the LED module voltage. Using a 12V supply with 24V modules will result in insufficient brightness. Using a 24V supply with 12V modules can damage the modules.
How many LED modules can I connect to one 60W supply?
Use the official per-model load limit from the TMT datasheet. Examples: Mini 2 (0.6W): 85 modules; Midi 4 (1.7W): 32 modules; Midi 3 (1.5W): 34 modules; Tiny (0.36W): 25 modules per single circuit. See the spec CSV for all values.
