Common Questions About LED Signage

What is an LED signage module?

An LED signage module is a small, low-voltage lighting unit used inside channel letters, sign cabinets, light boxes, and other illuminated signs. Modules are selected based on brightness, beam angle, efficiency, spacing, sign depth, voltage, and face material.

What LED module is best for channel letters?

For small and medium channel letters, the TMT Mini 2 Game Changer (107-165 Lm, 160 degree beam) is widely used. For larger channel letters, the TMT Midi 4 Game Changer (250-300 Lm, 170 degree beam) or Midi 3 Game Player (225 Lm) are common choices. The Midi Edge-lit module is designed for sign cabinets and edge-lit lightbox applications, not standard channel letters.

How do I calculate LED power supply requirements?

Use the manufacturer's published per-model load limit where available. When no official limit is published, divide total wattage by the supply's rated capacity at 80% derating as a conservative planning estimate. Use the LED ROI Calculator for a guided estimate.

What is Class 2 for LED power supplies?

Class 2 is a UL safety classification limiting each low-voltage output circuit to a maximum of 100 VA (60W at 12V via the 5A limit). Larger TMT supplies provide multiple independent Class 2 circuits. The 240W model provides four independent 5A Class 2 circuits. This simplifies code compliance for LED sign lighting installations.

What is the TMT Midi Stick system?

The TMT Midi Stick is an aluminum I-beam rail system for mounting Midi series LED modules inside sign cabinets. Modules snap in without tape, screws, or glue. The system is cut to length on-site and supports single-sided and double-sided cabinet installations.

Should LED ROI calculator results replace a final layout?

No. The LED ROI Calculator provides planning estimates for module count, energy cost, power supply requirements, and installation time. Final layouts should verify sign depth, stroke width, face material, voltage drop, loading margin, code requirements, and service access.

What does lumens per watt mean for LED signage?

Lumens per watt measures how efficiently an LED module converts electrical power into visible light. A higher lumens-per-watt value means more light output per watt consumed. Final sign brightness also depends on optics, module spacing, sign depth, and face material transmission.

What is the difference between 12V and 24V LED modules?

12V modules are the most common for channel letter applications. 24V modules allow longer wire runs with less voltage drop and are preferred for larger sign cabinets. TMT offers both 12V and 24V options across the Midi 4 and Midi Edge-lit product families.
